Merson Makes Relegation Prediction As He Delivers Verdict On Moyes’ Future At West Ham

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson expects West Ham to be relegated if the club sack David Moyes before the end of the season.

The Hammers have slipped back into the dropzone after last weekend’s concerning defeat to Tottenham but Merson warns things won’t get any better if Moyes leaves the London Stadium:

“West Ham will get out, but the other day [vs Tottenham] was worrying. I watched and thought ‘this is one of your biggest games of the season’, they didn’t play like it was. That’s a worry. Get rid of David Moyes and they will get relegated. Keep him and they will be okay. They will not go down with Moyes as manager, no chance…”

“It would be one of the biggest shocks in football if West Ham get relegated with David Moyes in charge – he’s thick-skinned and he’s got the experience to get them out of trouble.”

It has been reported that West Ham have already approached former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez through intermediaries. There have also been suggestions that ex-Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino would be open to joining the Irons.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter’s name has been mentioned as well if he leaves Stamford Bridge, but Merson seems to be adamant that any managerial change at this stage would prove fatal to the club’s Premier League survival.

Relegation could well be on the cards if results don’t improve so a big decision may need to be made on Moyes soon, especially if they don’t win against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
