Kouyate eyeing “special” result at Anfield this weekend

West Ham United star Cheikhou Kouyate says he is hoping his side can pull off a “special” result when they travel to Anfield this weekend.

The Hammers make the trip to Merseyside having won only one of their last five games in all competitions.

On the contrary, their opponents this Saturday come into the fixture undefeated in four and brimming with confidence, having hammered FC Porto 5-0 in the Champions League last week.

Despite their differences in fortunes as of late however, Kouyate believes the Hammers can do the unexpected and walk away from Anfield with three points in hand.

“We have a few days to work hard because we have a big, big game at Anfield,” said Kouyate, “and we want to go there and do something special for the fans.”

Kouyate however is more than aware of the threat Liverpool pose, and is all too familiar with one the Red’s star men, Sadio Mane, of whom he is an international team-mate.

The duo are set to travel to the World Cup in Russia together this summer, and Kouyate knows West Ham will have to be at their best to stop his international compatriot this weekend.

“We are going to play against one of the best teams in the league and there are some good players there, including Sadio Mane,” said Kouyate.

“I know him and I like to play against my friends. Every time we play, he wants to win, but maybe he won’t this time because we also want to win there.”
