Journalist Suggests West Ham’s Second Most Expensive Signing Will Be Dropped For Pivotal Southampton Clash

The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas has hinted that West Ham attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson could be dropped in favour of Jarrod Bowen for Saturday’s vital game against Southampton.

The £36m signing started the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night following his return from a back injury but he was substituted for Sebastien Haller after 65 minutes. Bowen then came on for Robert Snodgrass later on in the game and Thomas thinks his lively cameo could be enough to get him his first start for his new club at the weekend:

“I think if he [Moyes] does [start Bowen] then I imagine it’ll be for Anderson because Bowen had more chances than Anderson in this match.”

Despite signing from Hull City for £22m on deadline day last month, Bowen has yet to be handed a starting berth by David Moyes, having also been a substitute in the defeat to Manchester City last week.

The 23-year-old did demonstrate what he could do late on in the game at Anfield, breaking Liverpool’s offside trap to get through one on one with Alisson, only to see his chip saved. He will be hoping to put his chances away if he is handed a start at the London Stadium on Saturday.
