Journalist Contradicts Moyes As He Makes “Striker” January Transfer Window Claim

West Ham will be on the lookout for a new striker during the January transfer window, according to 90min.com journalist Scott Saunders.

Hammers boss David Moyes spoke out earlier this week to say that the club won’t be making any major additions next month, but Saunders says that is not in fact the case:

“We understand that West Ham are looking for a striker. No names tied to that as yet, but more firepower, perhaps to get the best out of [Gianluca] Scamacca and [Lucas] Paqueta.”

Despite Saunders’ claims, relatively few forwards have been linked with West Ham in recent months. Reports in Spain have once again mentioned Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri as a possible candidate to make the switch to the London Stadium but he has been a target who has been on the club’s radar for the best part of two years.

There are also claims that West Ham are keeping tabs on Chicago Fire’s Jhon Duran, although the Colombian is likely to be one for the future, with other teams (including Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United), having also been suggested as potential suitors.

The one player who would probably fit the bill is Blackburn’s Ben Brereton-Diaz. The Chilean international is expected to be available relatively cheaply next month with his contract set to expire in the summer.
