BT Sport pundit Joe Cole has called on West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca to find his composure in front of goal after missing a number of chances against FCSB.

While Cole does acknowledge that the Italian international has had a difficult start to life at the Irons after being sidelined with illness, he still feels that the forward was trying too hard to impress during the game on Thursday evening:

“He’s just snatching at his chances at the moment, and that’s not helping him, and it might not help his confidence. He looks anxious doesn’t he as a striker? We’ve seen it with a great player, top player, Haller, when he came in. He never settled and you don’t want that for Scamacca, so he needs to just slow himself down and calm himself down.”

Scamacca cost the Hammers £35.5m so the comparisons to another expensive striker like Haller are unavoidable. Club legend Paulo Di Canio also drew similarities between the two players when he assessed the chances of the Italian being a success at the London Stadium, prior to his move from Sassuolo in July.

It should be pointed out that a number of high-profile clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, were also linked with Scamacca so he is undoubtedly a quality player. It will be hoped that he can settle at West Ham quickly.
