Is West Ham United football club in good hands at present?

Slaven Bilić stayed at West Ham United longer than he should have done. By the end of his tenure, thanks to dismal results, he had lost any power he may have had in deciding who the club should buy and sell.

Enter David Moyes. He was on a mission to prove, mainly to himself, that he could manage “any club in the world” to quote from one of his many egotistical moments.

He signed a contract until the end of last season and that contract wasn’t renewed. Due to the short term nature of his agreement, Moyes was never in a position of strength and was never going to be allowed to spend the kind of money he wanted to.

He left having added West Ham to the list of clubs he actually proved he can’t manage.

Next item on the agenda at The London Stadium was finding a replacement.

Curly, Larry and Mo…..Karren, David and David immediately set about trying to convince Manuel Pellegrini that the job was deserving of his attention.

Having been wined and dined by Curly….. David Sullivan, he agreed to take the reins and signed a three year agreement. He then took his wife for a celebratory meal in Santiago and was mugged for a second time!

If recent reports are to be believed all is already not well at the home of The Hammers. Apparently, Manuel keeps having his requests for players returned unopened and it is getting to the stage where he may be having serious doubts about the wisdom of taking the job on.

Pellegrini is a serious manager and knows that if he can attract just one big name to the club then others will follow automatically. It is up to the board to back their new manager not immediately start putting obstacles in his way.

They are either serious about being a big club or they are not. If they are then they need to start acting like they are. If they are not then they should sell the club to someone who is.

In the not too distant past, if you were to ask people from outside of London who their favourite London football club was, then around 75% would have said West Ham. This was because of their youth policy and the way they approached and played the game.

That is all in danger of disappearing and, if they make a hash of things with Pellegrini, their good name could also be in question.

From moving from Upton Park to the London Stadium based on false promises to the fans, to behaving like big-shots in front of the press but a small club when buying players and dealing with managers, West Ham United need to start getting it right.

The massive question hanging over the club at present is; are The Three Stooges the right people to be leading this club forward? Are they even the right people to be leading this club at all!?
