“In Agony…” Declan Rice Provides Concerning Injury Update After West Ham’s Draw Against Chelsea

West Ham captain Declan Rice has revealed that Lucas Paqueta dislocated his shoulder in the 1-1 draw versus Chelsea.

The Brazilian had to be substituted just 15 minutes into the game, with Tomas Soucek coming on to replace him and, after the match, Rice said the midfielder was in a lot of pain:

“Obviously Lucas, I think his shoulder popped out to be fair. So he was in agony.”

It does sound like a recurrence of the shoulder problems that Paqueta suffered earlier in the season. The 25-year-old missed five games in October and November after picking up what manager David Moyes described as an unusual injury.

The fact that Rice said that Paqueta was “in agony” suggests that he won’t be back in action anytime soon, meaning there is no chance he’ll be available for the London derby against Tottenham next weekend.

It’s a real shame for the summer signing who had finally begun to settle in after a difficult start to life at the London Stadium.
