Iheanacho needs support form another striker when he arrives at West Ham

West Ham seem set to sign Nigerian ace Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City in the coming weeks, with the youngster’s agent confirming talks are at an advanced stage and a deal should go ahead imminently.

20-year-old Iheanacho has impressed in the past few seasons with the Citizens, proving to be a tremendous understudy to Sergio Aguero, but Pep Guardiola’s addition of Gabriel Jesus in the January transfer market has put the African ace further down the pecking order.

Aguero and Jesus are set to compete for a starting spot next season and that leaves Iheanacho out of the picture- which crucially comes ahead of a World Cup year where Nigeria will look to young Iheanacho to lead their young side.

For the benefit of all parties, Iheanacho’s move to West Ham seems ideal- but the Hammers can’t afford to leave too much pressure upon the young striker by not strengthening their attacking ranks with further signings.

The Hammers have struggled to find consistency this season and their injury record should provide a huge lesson for Slaven Bilic’s side not to pull all of their eggs in one basket, as a single injury with just Iheanacho arriving could derail their season plans.

Andy Carroll, Ashley Fletcher and Andy Carroll have all struggled for consistency this season, with suggestions at least one of them could leave, and West Ham would certainly benefit from a more experienced addition to help Iheanacho fulfil his full potential.

Jermaine Defoe seems ideal, but the veteran’s wage demands are excessive, so Bilic needs to find the right alternative- and sticking within the Premier League is the right idea considering their struggles to find capable men from the continent in recent years.

A player like Olivier Giroud from Arsenal would be the right sort of mould for the Hammers, although the Frenchman would be likely to return to his homeland this summer if an exit from the Emirates Stadium went ahead.

Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool would also be a decent addition but the injury record of the England striker is a big concern- although the addition of former Arsenal and England physio Gary Lewin should aid the Hammers next season.

Slaven Bilic’s side need to increase their ranks in a wealth of areas but just one or two additions in attack would be superb, as they could link-up perfectly with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.
