West Ham are reportedly planning to challenge Liverpool for the signature of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare when the transfer window opens in the New Year.
The Ivorian was not for sale in the summer after signing a contract extension but the situation is expected to be different in a few months’ time.
Supporters on Twitter are not sure whether Sangare would be a realistic target in January, with some feeling that the Hammers should have considered a move for him before now:
If that is true Rice is leaving in the summer 100%

If we are willing to spend potential 30M or more on Sangare and have potential alternatives if we cannot get him then we are certainly cooking something. pic.twitter.com/6cSSThOZLX

Should have went after him 2 years ago while he was playing for 20th place Toulouse. He had over 160 passes in to the final 3rd. 👀 From defensive midfield.

Chelsea are believed to have had a €45m (£39m) offer rejected for the 24-year-old on deadline day earlier this month, while the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Leicester have also been keeping tabs on the player.
With that level of competition, it’s difficult to see West Ham coming out on top if there is a battle for his signature unless (like with Lucas Paqueta), other teams shy away from making official bids.
