West Ham are prioritising a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic but they are also considering Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet and Leicester’s Luke Thomas as alternatives, according to ExWHUemployee.
The insider claims all three players are being looked at to strengthen the Hammers’ options at left-back/left wingback but fans on Twitter are not convinced that manager David Moyes is going after the right targets:
Kostic or Cornet I’d be happy with either tbh ⚒️

I hope Ex has this mistaken because Kostic is not a LB.

Cornet 🔥

Very worrying we don’t want a lb aswell

If we signed Thomas over Cornet then I’m done.

From the looks of things, it does appear as though Moyes wants to play 3-5-2/3-4-3 this season. Kostic is a specialist wingback, while Cornet is a winger by trade. Only one of the three, Luke Thomas, is comfortable at fullback, but all three options have drawbacks.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham can convince Kostic, who is seemingly the number one target. There have been suggestions that he could stay in Germany and run down his contract.
With regards to Thomas, the 21-year-old does lack experience, having only made 61 senior appearances. Cornet, meanwhile, has been linked with Chelsea, Everton and Nottingham Forest so there will be a lot of competition for his signature.
