“I’d Be Asking The Question…” Moyes’ Former Assistant Backs West Ham To Make Surprise Move For 80M England Star

Ex-West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce believes the Hammers should make an enquiry for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.

Pearce, who only left the London Stadium back in May, claims Maguire is a target that David Moyes could consider pursuing during the January transfer window:

“If I was West Ham, if I was Newcastle, if I was Aston Villa, I’d be all over trying to get Harry Maguire out of there. I’d be asking the question whether he’s available. He’d be a brilliant addition to a football club. He’s the right age, the right stature, right experience. He might just need another challenge now as he’s not getting regular football.”

Maguire cost Manchester United £80m but he has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. Even though Lisandro Martinez has yet to return to first-team duties after the World Cup, Maguire was still overlooked in favour of fullback Luke Shaw for the 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

The England international is clearly not central to manager Erik ten Hag’s plans, meaning there is a possibility that he could be loaned out this month if he becomes unhappy with his lack of game time.

With Craig Dawson angling for a move away from West Ham due to personal reasons, recruiting Maguire as a replacement would be seen as a very prudent choice.
