West Ham are reportedly seriously considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles before the transfer window closes.
It is still not known whether the Hammers will look to snap up the England international on loan or on a permanent basis but it appears as if some sort of deal is in the works.
Supporters on Twitter are, however, very much split on whether signing Maitland-Niles is a good idea. Some feel he wouldn’t be able to hold down a place in the starting eleven, while others believe he just needs to be given a chance to show what he can do:
I think he is absolute pony TBF. Will end up being a joke of a player for us like Kovac became..

Agree, did really well when played mainly as right wing back for a while, would suit Moyes & style. Is hard worker good athlete who is very versatile though think still prefers midfield. Loan with option be great but wouldn’t be high fee either.

He was dreadful in Roma and couldn’t add up even 10 games in minutes played despite all their injuries. No wonder there wasn’t any interest whatsoever into signing him after the loan.

He’d play ahead Soucek at the minute

On the face of it, it does look like an underwhelming signing. He struggled during a loan spell at Roma last season, and he has not even made a matchday squad for Arsenal since his return to North London.
Manager David Moyes would, therefore, be taking a gamble if he does decide to bring in Maitland-Niles this month.
