Hurst Delivers Warning About West Ham Star’s Future

West Ham and England legend Sir Geoff Hurst believes that the Hammers will find it difficult to keep hold of midfielder Declan Rice in the long term.

The 20-year-old has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea over the past year, and Hurst told the Daily Star that the club will find it hard to stop him from leaving for one of the ‘big six’:

“Of course the big danger its any young player at any club, and at West Ham, outside the top six is when one of the top six boys comes sniffing along. Then it becomes a huge problem of whether you can keep him.”

“With West Ham or any club outside the top six, when the top six come calling it’s difficult to keep them. But in terms of his play, it looks a huge, huge opportunity for him to progress, at West Ham or elsewhere, and within the national set-up.”

As another former player Rio Ferdinand said earlier this week, West Ham did very well to keep Rice over the summer. The England international has massive potential and will only improve in the coming months and years.

It would take an astronomical offer for the London club to even consider selling the midfielder, and as long as Rice is happy to stay with the Irons, fans will not be too concerned about the player leaving the London Stadium any time soon.
