The Player With The Highest Transfer Value At Every Premier League Club (Part 4)

Declan Rice playing for West Ham

Today’s post finishes our series of articles profiling the players with the highest transfer value at all 20 Premier League teams.

After going through our third five last week, we now move on to our fourth and final set of stars.

For the valuations, we will be taking data from CIES Football Observatory, who have put together a sophisticated statistic model to assess the price tags of footballers across the world.

Press the next page as we list the most valuable players at Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves.

Nottingham Forest – Brennan Johnson (€30m)

The young attacking midfielder was already highly rated after impressing for Forest as they battled to promotion from the Championship.

However, Johnson kicked on once again last season, making a mark in England’s top tier, scoring eight league goals for the newly promoted club.

At 22 years of age, the sky really is the limit for the Wales international.

Bigger Premier League clubs could well make a move for Johnson in the not-too-distant future.

Southampton – Carlos Alcaraz (€20m)

The Argentine was signed by the Saints during the January transfer window for £12m to help the south coast club avoid the drop.

Although Alcaraz was unable to prevent his new team from being relegated, he was one of the club’s standout players.

The 20-year-old scored four goals and provided two assists in 18 appearances in the second half of the season.

AC Milan, Benfica and Brighton have all been linked with Alcaraz in recent weeks and it would be a surprise if he is still in the Championship by the end of the summer.

Tottenham – Cristian Romero (€60m)

Tottenham paid Atalanta a total of £47m for Romero so it appears his value is still holding up despite some less-than-convincing performances for the London club.

The Argentinian international is undoubtedly a strong and capable defender, as we saw with his performances out in Qatar, helping his country win the World Cup.

However, at club level, Romero’s lack of discipline and his tendency to jump into tackles has led to him getting into trouble on plenty of occasions.

It will be interesting to see whether he remains an important player under news Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

West Ham – Declan Rice (€60m)

CIES’s valuation is likely based on the fact that, technically, the Hammers captain has a year left on his contract at the London Stadium.

However, everyone knows that West Ham have an option for an extra year, meaning they can hold out for a much higher transfer fee this summer.

Everything at the moment points towards Arsenal winning the race for the England international’s signature.

A fee in excess of £100m is expected for Rice but, at the time of writing, no official bids have been tabled yet.

Wolves – Matheus Nunes (€40m)

Some observers were surprised when the Portuguese midfielder made the switch to Wolves last year.

After all, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had hailed Nunes as one of the best midfielders in the world after his team faced Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

The player’s first season in England does offer us plenty of clues as to why more prestigious teams didn’t take a chance on him.

While Nunes is capable in possession, his positional awareness has been found wanting and he doesn’t have the pace or physicality to be deployed as a holding midfielder. He may still turn out to be a decent Premier League player, though, now he has had a year to settle into life in England.
