Hernandez speaks ahead of West Ham debut against Manchester United

The Premier League returns to our screens this weekend and West Ham United will be eyeing a successful campaign after last year’s disappointments, where the Hammers struggled to adapt to their new home at the London Stadium.

Slaven Bilic’s side will be on the road for the first three games of the new season due to the World Athletic’s Championships being held in the home of the 2012 Olympics and the Hammers’ won’t be playing on their own turf until hosting newly-promoted Huddersfield Town after the early international break.

West Ham face a number of difficult trips in the early weeks of the new season, starting with this Sunday’s mammoth trip to Old Trafford- where new signing Javier Hernandez will return to his former stomping ground.

The Mexican striker signed for the Hammers this summer after a successful stint with Bayer Leverkusen and has significantly boosted Bilic’s forward line, though he’ll have to be on top of his game if the Hammers are to take anything away from a clash with Jose Mourinho’s side.

Hernandez has evolved a lot since first moving to the Premier League seven years ago but is clearly looking forward to this weekend’s clash, as he spoke fondly about his time with Manchester United to The Guardian.

“It was a great experience [there] … only happiness. I was living my dream and made that big step, which is not common. There is nothing negative about going there. It’s going to be my first game with my new club, against my old club in my old house. It’s only positive things – it’s an important moment for me.”

Hernandez scored 59 goals for Manchester United during his five-years at the club, where he won two Premier League titles, but he was largely used as an impact substitute- whereas West Ham fans can expect to see him leading the line on a regular basis.

Becoming the main man in the Premier League isn’t an experience Hernandez has had before but, now 29, he has the capability of becoming a hit in East London and providing the boost that the Hammers have been crying out for in attack.
