West Ham will have to brace themselves for a bid from Manchester United for midfielder Declan Rice, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims that the Red Devils have made the England international their number one target for the summer transfer window:
“He is top of the list for Man United since a long time. Man Utd dream of Declan Rice, they consider him the perfect player for their approach for the new season. Man United will sign a defensive midfield and Declan Rice is the player they want.”
Romano also revealed that Manchester City are keeping tabs on Rice, but their move for the 23-year-old will depend on whether they sign Erling Haaland. Chelsea’s interest is well known, but their transfer plans are up in the air due to their ownership situation.
With the Hammers reportedly holding out for around £150m, it would be a shock if any team does meet the club’s valuation but it seems almost certain now that they will receive formal bids this summer.
Whether Rice is interested in a move may depend on how West Ham finish this season. The midfielder has expressed a strong desire to play in the Champions League and qualifying for Europe’s top competition would be the best way to keep him at the London Stadium.
