Happy With Hammers Owners As They Make Major Managerial Appointment?

So West Ham parted company with David Moyes after he guided them to safety this season and the club have moved very quickly following the end of the season to appoint a new boss.

It was clear that Hammers fans would not take kindly to another choice for manager that they were not happy about and it seems the West Ham owners have had that very much in their minds as they announced the appointment of their new manager earlier today.

Former Real Madrid and Manchester City boss, 64 year old Chilean legend Manuel Pellegrini, who won the Premier League in 2013–14 with City, has been announced as the new West Ham boss on what is a big move for the Hammers at around £7million a year on a 3 year deal.

Pellegrini has taken a significant pay cut to become the manager at the London Stadium as he was earning mega-bucks in China at Hebei China Fortune where he was getting approximately £16million a year according to sources.

This is a solid choice from the much maligned David Gold and David Sullivan and the key to it is that the charming Chilean boss will have the entire transfer window and off-season to work at the club bringing in the right players and implementing his philosophy.

The Hammers had been heavily linked with a move to bring in former Liverpool boss and current Newcastle gaffer, Rafael Benitez but the thought of Benitez’s defensive tactics likely made Manuel Pellegrini’s brand of elegant football all the more attractive.

In a statement released on Tuesday after the signing of all relevant contracts the new West Ham boss had this to say about returning to England as a manager:

“I am excited about this project,”

“My mentality is always to have a winning mentality.

“I hope that I can repeat here what I did with all my clubs here in Europe, where I have always arrived in European competition.

“I know that this league is very good and it’s not easy to do it, but I think that working all together with the owners, the technical staff and the fans, we have an important power and can think about reaching important targets for the season.”

With a number of other clubs looking to hire new managers, West Ham have acted quickly to secure the services of Pellegrini while it seems Arsenal are set to appoint PSG’s recent French treble winning manager, Unai Emery as their new boss while Everton who released Sam Allardyce are reportedly still pursuing Marco Silva.

Pellegrini’s appointment should prove an astute one if he is backed in the transfer market and allowed to bring in the classy type of players he needs to play his football.

Now the inactivity in the January transfer window, under former Man United and Everton boss David Moyes, makes more sense as Sullivan and Gold obviously never wanted Moyes to do anything more than save the club from relegation.

Whether Pellegrini can deliver success at the London Stadium only time will tell but the response to the “engineer” becoming West Ham manager seems to be a pretty positive one from the Hammers faithful.
