Hammers targeting bargain Fenerbahce midfielder

West Ham United are said to be battling it out with two other clubs over the signing of Fenerbahce midfielder Josef de Souza, according to reports in Turkey.

AMK claim that the Hammers have already made a bid for the 29-year-old, which was turned down, and are looking to lodge another effort to sign the Brazilian in due course.

Souza would be available on the cheap due to him being out of contract at next summer and talks over a new deal supposedly breaking down, with the player keen to exit.

The Hammers are joined by Wolves and Watford in their pursuit of the midfielder, although it is assumed that there are various other European clubs in for his services.

The Brazilian has been at Fenerbahce for 3 years, making 92 appearances and scoring 9 goals in the process.

With Fenerbahce desperate to raise funds due to Financial Fair Play, and the risk of the player leaving for nothing next season, they could be in line to accept an offer in the region of just €10m for the Brazilian.

It would be the Hammers’ fourth signing of the summer if they were to get the deal over the line.
