Hammers preparing £20 million bid for Sporting Lisbon star

West Ham are preparing to launch a £20 million bid for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

The Portugal international enjoyed a fantastic last season with Lisbon, scoring 16 goals and creating another 20 in all competitions.

However the club have endured a difficult time recently off the pitch, with fans, players and the club’s chairman colliding (sometimes violently), leading to a number of the club’s star players terminating their contracts.

Rui Patricio, Bas Dost, Gelson Martins and William Carvalho – who is also understood to be a target for West Ham – all cut short their time at Sporting following the trouble, and now Fernandes could be the latest player to leave in what has been a mass exodus at the Portuguese side.

Unlike his former team-mates however, Fernandes will not be available on a free despite his efforts to leave the club.

Fernandes had also tried to terminate his contract at Sporting following a clash with the club’s fans, however in order to smooth over a transfer, West Ham and Sporting are working to agree a cut-price fee that would leave all parties satisfied.

West Hamm are reported to have bid £20 million for the 23-year-old, however Sporting may old out for an extra £5 million.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also understood to be interested in Fernandes.
