Hammers hold talks with Wilshere over potential free transfer

West Ham United have reportedly made contact with Jack Wilshere over a potential move to the club.

Wilshere confirmed last month that he would be leaving Arsenal after 17 years at the club, and is available on a free transfer after he officially left at the end of his contract on July 1.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilshere insisted he is open to offers from the Premier League but is also willing to move abroad, saying: “This has been a good opportunity for me to rest and reflect on my life and what I want – I am not going to rush that decision.

“The transfer window finishes early August, so we still have some time and with the World Cup still going on things happen after the World Cup and during.

“Everyone knows what Deadline Day is like, it’s manic and teams start to panic so we will see. I am not putting a deadline on anything.”

Several clubs around Europe have been linked with the midfielder this summer, with Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Everton and Wolves, as well as Serie A’s Juventus, AC Milan and Sampdoria all interested in the England international.

However, the Hammers could turn out to be Wilshere’s preferred option, as the midfielder is reportedly hoping to stay in London as a first choice.

The signing of Wilshere would be an almighty deal for West Ham, who have already been busy this transfer window by completing the signings of three stars.
