Hammers are giving ‘everything’ for Bilic

West Ham forward Andre Ayew says his fellow Hammers colleagues are all behind manager Slaven Bilic, whose job is under severe threat.

The Croatian boss was given two games to save his job after losing 3-0 at home to Brighton last Friday, and looked to be down and out when going 2-0 down to Spurs in the League Cup. But the Hammers fought back brilliantly and won the game 3-2, thanks to two goals from Ayew.

West Ham have been accused of not trying hard enough during games, perhaps signalling that they have lost faith in their manager. But Ayew has dismissed these accusations, saying that the whole team is giving ‘everything’ for the manager.

“When you are at a club like West Ham and the results are difficult, the manager is under pressure for sure,” he said. “But so are the players. We have to keep working hard and the manager knows the players are behind him. We will give everything we can.

“Not only for the manager but for ourselves too. We have to wear the shirt with a lot of pride. There is a fighting spirit.”

West Ham face bottom of the table Crystal Palace on Saturday, a must win game, but one that they must be cautious of says Ayew.

“It is a good win for the confidence to come from behind to beat Spurs at Wembley,” Ayew added. “We can’t get carried away.

“We were not flying or anything in our heads but I think it is a good reality check that you still need to work very hard, even if you are 2-0 up, to get results.

“Everybody’s disappointed but we have to learn from this moment. On Saturday there’s a big game coming up and we have to focus on this.”
