Grame Souness Names The Club Who Are The ‘Biggest Underachiever’ In The Premier League This Season

TalkSPORT pundit Graeme Souness has labelled West Ham as the biggest underachiever so far this campaign.

The Hammers spent over £170m on players in the summer but they find themselves languishing in 16th place heading in the World Cup, and Souness believes they have disappointed massively:

“If you’d gone back a couple of weeks I’d have said Leicester. You have to throw Wolves into that too, but I’m going West Ham.”

Interestingly, Souness didn’t mention either Liverpool or Chelsea but there is some merit to him naming West Ham. Considering they finished sixth and seventh over the past two seasons, a lot was expected of David Moyes’ men after some heavy investment in the transfer market.

However, things have not gone to plan. Major signings such as Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca have struggled with fitness problems and form, whilst some well-established stars have dropped their performance levels.

Jarrod Bowen and Vladimir Coufal, in particular, have been very disappointing, whilst captain Declan Rice shouldn’t be immune from criticism either.

Moyes is even coming under pressure from some quarters as fans question whether he can turn things around. All the signs do suggest, however, that he will keep his job for now.
