Giroud would be an exceptional signing for West Ham this summer

West Ham are being linked with huge names ahead of the summer transfer window, with Slaven Bilic eyeing the sort of recruits that can help the Hammers fight back from what has been a disappointing debut season at the London Stadium.

The Hammers moved swiftly in the market to secure the future of key-man Michail Antonio and sign Pablo Zabaleta on a free-transfer from Manchester City, bolstering two crucial areas of their squad- and their attack is the next priority.

West Ham struggled to find a consistent and reliable striker last summer to lead their lines, which they need to overcome during the current close season, and the latest name being linked with a move to East London is Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.

Sky Sports state that the French striker is on Bilic’s radar this summer and Giroud would be an excellent addition to the Hammers’ attack, especially as the experienced forward has plenty to prove which can drive him towards a successful stint with West Ham.

Despite scoring vital goals for Arsenal last season and setting-up Aaron Ramsey’s winner in the FA Cup final, Giroud is still criticised vastly by supporters in North London who suggest he’s not good enough- and the case is the same on the international stage, despite Giroud’s sensational form.

In the recent international break, Giroud became the first player to score a hat-trick for Les Bleus since David Trezeguet in 2000 and followed it up by equalling Karim Benzema’s goal-scoring record for the French national side.

Still, he’s looked upon unkindly by French fans and faces a battle to maintain his spot in Didier Deschamps’ side ahead of the World Cup next summer- as he faces competition from the likes of Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe and plenty more.

At West Ham, Giroud would get the first-team football he’s seeking to prove his class- although the lack of European football could be an issue for the 30-year-old and his age may be a concern for West Ham fans who want long-term solutions.

However, signing Giroud and a younger striker like Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho could provide the sort of improvements West Ham need in their attacking lines- with the pair potentially providing the perfect balance between experience and youth.

Giroud guarantees goals and is a handful for defenders, which could also make room for attacking midfielders like Antonio and Manuel Lanzini- which shows he could be a huge catalyst for improvements at the London Stadium.
