‘Get Off Their Backs’ Redknapp Calls Out Critics As West Ham Signing Gets Off The Mark

Jamie Redknapp has called for more patience for strikers following West Ham forward Sebastien Haller‘s double against Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Both the Frenchman and Aston Villa’s Wesley Moraes were questioned by some critics after underwhelming debuts but Redknapp believes the pair proved any doubters wrong with their performances at the weekend:

“Against Everton on Friday, Wesley made a well-timed run behind the backline before having the composure to slide a shot beyond Jordan Pickford. Haller scored twice at Watford on Saturday, one a tap-in, the other an overhead kick.”

“They did their jobs and led their teams to their first wins of the season. Now let’s get off their backs and see how they progress.”

Haller is West Ham’s record signing at £45m so there was always going to be some expectation on the 25-year-old to hit the ground running. With his excellent brace versus the Hornets, he has done exactly that.

There is nothing worse for a striker than to have a long wait before scoring your first goal for your new club and the French ace quickly made sure he eased any pressure on himself by bagging the double.

Despite his height, Haller is an agile, all-round striker, and he certainly showed that with a well-executed overhead kick to seal the 3-1 win at Vicarage Road.
