Lyon are preparing a €15m (£13m) offer for Real Betis centre-back Aissa Mandi, according to reports in the French media.
The Algerian international is reportedly on West Ham’s radar, while Newcastle have also been linked with the player recently.
Mandi does have a release clause of €30m (£26m) but with the defender’s contract expiring at the end of next season, Betis will be keen to ensure he doesn’t leave on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old is very experienced, having played well over 100 games in the top flight of Spanish and French football. The Hammers could certainly do with another option at the back with Winston Reid unlikely to return to the club following his loan move to Sporting Kansas City.
With Fabian Balbuena also having struggled this season and, with doubts over the future of Issa Diop, a centre-back target could be high on David Moyes’ agenda when the transfer window reopens.
