FPL: Three West Ham Players To AVOID In Your Fantasy Football Premier League Team

West Ham United, despite a couple of hairy moments, managed to avoid relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season – as such, David Moyes’ men will be partaking in the Premier League in 2023/24.

In turn, this means that you’ll be able to include West Ham players in your Fantasy Football Premier League team ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Recently, we have done a piece detailing the Hammers players who you may wish to throw in your squad – today, however, we’ll be looking at players to avoid.

We’ll be looking at why each player wouldn’t be a very good inclusion – whether it be their overblown FPL price, poor points return or lack of playing time.

Ben Johnson

It just isn’t panning out for Ben Johnson at West Ham. Last season should have been a breakout year for the Hammers academy graduate, but a slew of below-par performances saw him be replaced by the aging Vladimir Coufal.

Next season, all of West Ham United’s defenders have a starting FPL price of £4.5. In total, Johnson accumulated the lowest points tally of the lot last season.

Due to this, it’s very difficult to recommend putting him into your Fantasy Football squad – especially when it is unclear how much game time he will receive.

Lucas Paqueta

We feel a modicum of guilt by putting a player of Lucas Paqueta’s quality on a list such as this. He’s a wonderful footballer who was one of West Ham’s best players last season – but his FPL points output leaves a lot to be desired.

Last season, Paqueta picked up a total of 98 points in Fantasy Football Premier League. This isn’t a terrible tally, but for his price, you can do a lot better.

Paqueta will cost you £6.0 next season on the official Premier League website – there are better, not to mention cheaper, options out there in midfield.

Gianluca Scamacca

Gianluca Scamacca joined the Premier League last season with plenty of hype, following a good run of form with Sassuolo – but thus far, he has yet to replicate it at the London Stadium.

It wasn’t all his fault – he spent a large chunk of the campaign out of action with an injury, but that doesn’t help his case when we’re talking fantasy football.

Moreover, West Ham have two strikers that out-performed him last season – Danny Ings and Michail Antonio. The final nail in the coffin is Scamacca’s price, which stands at £6.0 – it makes him a very hard sell.
