Four Things West Ham Must Do If They Want To Get A Result Against Arsenal This Weekend

The London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday is a vital game for both teams.

West Ham will want to build on their momentum from their victory against Southampton while the Gunners are looking to make a late push for the European places.

The Hammers have seen an upturn in their form recently, and they should be confident despite it being a tough away fixture.

Press the “next page” as we take a look at four things West Ham must get right against Arsenal to come away with a result.

Maintain Support For Haller

It is no coincidence that the club’s record signing has started to play better now he has two genuine attackers, in Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, playing alongside him.

If manager David Moyes reverts to a more a conservative approach against Arsenal, there is every chance that Haller will become isolated up front once again. A result this weekend is dependent on making sure the Frenchman is well supported.

Play Quickly On The Counter Attack

As we saw at Anfield, even the best defences in the league are vulnerable in transitions when counter-attacks are executed well.

Arsenal are by no means the best at the back, with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz prone to mistakes, and there should be plenty of opportunities on the break if the Irons are willing to take them.

Fornals Must Stay In The Team

The Spaniard made his point by scoring a goal after coming on as a substitute against Liverpool, and he deservedly was recalled to the starting line up for the win versus Southampton.

Fornals was excellent in the attacking third in the victory over the Saints, but there remains a feeling that Moyes is not completely convinced by the 24-year-old. Hopefully, the Scot keeps faith with the playmaker on Saturday.

Exploit Arsenal’s Biggest Vulnerability

The Gunners have conceded 12 goals from set-pieces this season, with Aston Villa the only team having a worse record in the Premier League.

In contrast, West Ham have been pretty adept in scoring from similar situations this campaign. With the Hammers unlikely to have the majority of the ball at the Emirates, Moyes will want to make the most of free-kicks and corners this weekend.
