Four Strikers Who West Ham Could Go After If Gomez Deal Collapses

Four Strikers Who West Ham Could Go After If Gomez Deal Collapses

Negotiations for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez appear to be dragging on, with the main sticking point seemingly being that West Ham can’t match the striker’s €50m(£45m) release clause.

With some reports suggesting that talks could drag on throughout the whole transfer window, it may be good to look at some potential alternatives who the club haven’t considered yet.

Here are four possible options:

1) Wissam Ben Yedder

The France international has been heavily linked with Manchester United over the past year, but no team has yet decided to trigger the player’s buyout clause.

Ben Yedder

At €40m (£36m), he would be £9m cheaper than Gomez and would be closer to West Ham’s price range. After hitting 30 goals in all competitions for Sevilla last season as well, he would prove to be a prolific goalscorer.

If Javier Hernandez does leave the London Stadium this summer, the 28-year-old could also be a good replacement.

2) Andrej Kramaric

Although the Croatian was a flop the last time he was in the Premier League with Leicester City, he has developed as a player during his time in Germany.

Last season, he scored 22 in 37 appearances for Hoffenheim, as well as scoring three goals in his last six caps at international level for Croatia.

Kramaric is reportedly available for between €30m (£27m) and €40m (£36m), but the Hammers would have to move fast with AC Milan said to be closing in on a deal for the striker.

3) Mbwana Samatta

The Genk forward could be available for just £12m this summer despite having scored 32 goals in all competitions last season.

At 26 years of age, Samatta is still relatively young and he is said to be keen to move to England in order to further his career. If a move for Salomon Rondon or Gomez doesn’t work out, the Tanzania striker could be an economical solution.

4) Andrea Petagna

Playing for the unfancied SPAL in Serie A last season, the Italian managed to score an impressive 16 goals in the league, helping his side finish comfortably in midtable.

Just 23, Petagna does have the potential to develop his game, and he could be signed for between €20m (£18m) and €25m (£22.5m) this summer. He was on Leicester City’s radar earlier this year and has also been lined up as a potential successor to Ciro Immobile at Lazio.

At 6ft 2, he also would provide a presence up front and offer manager Manuel Pellegrini something different in attack.
