Former West Ham star admits purposely being a ‘d***head’

Former Hammers star Dimitri Payet has admitted he was purposefully “a d***head” in order to force a move away from the club.

The Frenchman left West Ham in January after 18 months at the the club which saw him go from hero to zero. Payet was highly thought of by many, and often described as world class by some. He established himself as one of the Premier League’s top stars within his first season at the club, and continued his brilliant form with France at Euro 2016. However, upon returning from the competition, things started to turn.

The forward handed in a transfer request at West Ham and reportedly caused some trouble within the West Ham camp in the process. He was eventually granted his move back to French side Marseille in January, and not much has been heard from the dazzling winger since.

However, in a recent interview the France international admits purposely forcing his way out of West Ham.

“I know how to be a d**khead,” he told So Foot. “It’s one of my specialties. It’s a little game. When I want to p*ss everyone off, I do it.”

“My managers understood that: when I sulk, they talk to me. It’s a way for me to be heard. Those who know me play along, and in the end it goes well.”

Despite his admittance, the 30-year-old insisted that he had a good relationship with manager Slaven Bilic, sighting him as a father figure.

“He managed me like a father,” he added. “We spoke every day. He quickly understood how I worked.”

“You saw that straight away in how quickly I adapted. He’s a cranky guy. He’s from Croatia… he can shout, but he’s good at man-management.”
