Five Underperforming West Ham Stars Who Moyes Needs To Get More From

After finishing tenth last season, West Ham now find themselves in a relegation battle. One of the key reasons for such a dramatic change in fortunes is the raft of players who are underperforming.

David Moyes’ appointment as manager has not resulted in any stars really improving their form. In his first spell as head coach, he managed to get a tune out of Marko Arnautovic but, so far, he hasn’t had much luck this time around.

It could be argued that the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Michail Antonio have performed well, but they were still putting in a shift under Manuel Pellegrini as well.

Press the “next page” as we look at five West Ham players who need to start earning their wages:

Sebastien Haller

Six goals in 26 appearances is not what any Hammers supporter would have expected when the Frenchman arrived for a club-record £45m from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Haller has had to deal with being too isolated up front, but his low work rate and lack of pace means he hasn’t been pulling his weight.

Issa Diop

The Frenchman had an excellent first season at the London Stadium, leading to speculation that Manchester United were interested in signing him.

However, Diop’s form has nosedived this campaign, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Moyes opts for Fabian Balbuena ahead of him following the winter break.

Manuel Lanzini

Moyes says he is determined to help the Argentine recover the levels he has previously shown in a West Ham shirt, but the attacking midfielder has been struggling badly.

Lanzini has not scored this season and has just three assists in 20 appearances, while he was benched after being booed off versus Liverpool.

Felipe Anderson

Pretty much in the same boat as Lanzini, with the Brazilian having failed to show the spark which saw him light up his first campaign at the club.

Anderson is currently out with a back injury but whether we’ll see a man with renewed determination once he returns after the winter break, we shall have to wait and see.

Pablo Fornals

The Spaniard had a decent spell in December, with many hoping that the 23-year-old had finally adapted to English football following his £24m move from Villarreal in the summer.

However, after playing the full 90 minutes in Moyes’ first game in charge against Bournemouth, Fornals has barely made any contribution since then, and he’ll need to do more in the final few months of the season to prevent him being sold at the end of the campaign.
