FIVE Premier League Stars Who Have ‘Buyback’ Clauses In Their Contracts

In today’s post, we will be looking at the Premier League players who have buyback clauses.

Unlike release clauses, these agreements are club specific, allowing a team to re-sign their former player for a set price.

They are not that common in English football but our list today comprises of FOUR players from the same club.

Press the next page as we reveal five stars who have buyback clauses in their contracts.

Romeo Lavia (Southampton)

The Belgian Under 21 international only moved to the Saints for £12m at the start of the season.

However, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are already said to be interested in signing Lavia.

One major complication for these three teams, though, is the fact that the midfielder’s former club Manchester City do have a £40m buyback clause, which can be triggered as early as this summer.

Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)

The England international is another Saints player with a buyback option, and it seems the South Coast club are not averse to making such agreements to bring in talented players.

Walker-Peters initially moved on loan before joining Southampton from Tottenham on a permanent basis in the summer of 2020.

Despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, though, Spurs can bring him back to Hotspur Way for £30m at any time.

James Garner (Everton)

The Toffees snapped up the midfielder on deadline day back in August but not before Manchester United included a buyback clause

Garner has, however, struggled for first team minutes since making the switch to Goodison Park, with a back injury also hampering his efforts to establish himself in the starting eleven.

At the moment, it seems very unlikely that United will choose to bring the 21-year-old back to Old Trafford anytime soon.

Tino Livramento (Southampton)

Chelsea allowed their talented fullback to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2021 for just £5m, before he went on to excel during his first season at St Mary’s.

However, a serious knee injury set back Livramento’s development and he hasn’t played since the end of April last year.

It hasn’t stopped the 20-year-old from being linked with Arsenal and Manchester City, but Chelsea do have a £50m buyback clause. Due to sell-on fees, the cost of the deal could even be lowered to £38m.

Gavin Bazunu (Southampton)

The fourth and final Saints player on our list, the Irish international goalkeeper made the switch to St Mary’s from Manchester City last summer.

It is believed that Southampton paid around £15m for Bazunu but agreed to include a sizeable buyback clause.

On this season’s evidence, City won’t want to re-sign the 21-year-old, as he has been one of the worst-performing keepers in the Premier League.
