FIVE Players Who Were Given A Red Card On Their Full Premier League Debut

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is not the only player who has been sent off on their full debut in the Premier League.

The Uruguayan’s first start was unceremoniously cut short after his stupid headbutt on Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen, but there are other examples where debutants have lost their head.

It’s certainly not a common occurrence, but we have found at least five other instances where new signings were given their marching orders after being handed their first start for their new club.

Press the next page as we go through the players who were given a red card on debut.

1) Serge Aurier

The Ivorian started his first match for Tottenham in a London derby against West Ham. With his side 3-0 up, he managed to pick up two bookings in the space of six minutes midway through the second half.

Luckily for Aurier, Spurs still managed to hold on for the three points, despite the Hammers clawing two goals back in the last half hour of the match.

2) Gervinho

Remarkably the first of TWO Arsenal players on this list, the winger managed to get caught up in an unsavoury exchange with notorious troublemaker Joey Barton.

Gervinho had gone to ground too easily in the box, leading Barton to take issue with his ‘dive’. After trying to haul the winger off the floor, the Newcastle midfielder remonstrated with Gervinho before the Gunners star slapped him in the face.

3) Kagisho Dikgacoi

Work permit issues meant the South African had to wait two months before making his debut for Fulham but he only lasted 42 minutes, after an off-the-ball scuffle with West Ham’s Scott Parker.

Dikgacoi was initially given a yellow card by referee Phil Dowd for pushing Parker in the face but he changed his decision to a red once he consulted with his assistant.

4) Laurent Koscielny

The Frenchman’s first appearance for Arsenal was an interesting one, to say the least. He sustained an injury in the first half but managed to soldier on as the Gunners looked to hold on to a 1-1 draw.

However, Koscielny managed to pick up two yellow cards in injury time, although (luckily for him) it did not affect the final result.

5) Samba Diakite

Queens Park Rangers were in the midst of a relegation dogfight when the Malian arrived on loan from Nancy midway through the 2011/12 season, but he lasted just 33 minutes into his debut.

After picking up an initial booking, a poor challenge on Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz meant Diakite was sent for an early bath. QPR went on to lose 1-0.
