Ferdinand Urges West Ham To Hire “Fantastic” 51 Year Old Manager If They Fire Moyes

Ex-West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand has backed the Hammers to appoint former Tottenham and PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino if they sack David Moyes.

The 2-0 win over AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League has eased pressure on Moyes slightly but, if the club do opt to dispense with the services of the Scot, Ferdinand believes Pochettino would be the right man for the job:

“As a West Ham fan, if Moyes was to be relieved of his duties, that’s someone that I’d want West Ham to go for, is Pochettino. You’ve seen his football was fantastic at Tottenham. He got the best out of the players that he had there; the energy and the way that he had the team playing was fantastic.”

Pochettino would certainly be right up there in terms of the calibre of manager that the Irons would like to appoint but there are doubts over whether he would take the position.

Over the past twelve months, the 51-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea, although both teams hired other managers when the posts were last vacant.

At the bookmakers, Pochettino is only third or fourth favourite due to reservations about his interest in the West Ham job. Rafa Benitez and Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick are currently the frontrunners to replace Moyes.
