Fabrizio Romano Claims Club Had “No Intention” Of Letting Ex Arsenal Star Go Amid West Ham And Villa Links

Marseille had “no intention” of letting West Ham target Matteo Guendouzi leave during the January transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Aston Villa were the club most heavily linked with the former Arsenal player, but the Hammers were also credited with an interest in the France international, Even so, Romano says the midfielder was never likely to move teams:

West Ham weren’t expected to be too active on deadline day, although there were some suggestions that the London club were looking at recruiting another forward.

In terms of midfielders, it appears Irons boss David Moyes is happy to make do with what he has got until the end of the season.

Things will almost certainly change on that front come the summer, though, with various reports suggesting that Declan Rice will be seeking a transfer. Whether Guendouzi will come under consideration again as a potential replacement for the West Ham captain, we shall have to wait and see.
