ExWHUemployee Reveals West Ham Could Make New Attempt To “Convince” Star To Stay

West Ham are considering whether to give midfielder Declan Rice a new contract, according to ExWHUemployee.

As has been repeatedly reported over the last few months, the 21-year-old remains a target for Chelsea and the insider source claims the Hammers may offer the player improved terms in the hope that he’ll decide to stay at the London Stadium:

“New contracts are now being weighed up. There’s the possibility of trying to offer Declan Rice a new deal to convince him to stay.”

Rice’s situation is a difficult one to predict. It is thought that Chelsea would like to sign the England international in the January transfer window but they would have to sell players in order to make a formal bid.

It is, therefore, not guaranteed that the Blues will make an approach next month, but giving the midfielder a contract extension could well shut the door to a potential departure, in the short term at least.

The Hammers are currently riding high in the Premier League, with Rice the club’s de-facto leader on the pitch, with captain Mark Noble no longer a regular starter, so his exit midway through the season would be very damaging indeed. Tying him down to a new contract would certainly help mitigate against that.
