Di Canio Delivers Warning To West Ham About Signing 34M Striker Who “Is Not A Lukaku”

West Ham legend Paulo Di Canio believes Gianluca Scamacca could struggle in the Premier League if he did make the switch to the London Stadium.

Reports suggest that the Hammers could offer as much as €40m (£34m) for the Sassuolo striker but Di Canio drew comparisons with Sebastien Haller and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku to make his point that he could be out of his depth in England:

“It’s not easy to be a protagonist in the Premier League. It’s a tough league; it reminds me of Haller, who at Eintracht scored a goal every two games and struggled at West Ham. He’s not a Lukaku. Then at West Ham, there’s Antonio, who is a totem. I don’t know if he will be a starter straight away.”

While reports about West Ham’s interest in Scamacca have intensified, it is still believed that Armando Broja is the club’s number one target to strengthen the frontline.

The Albanian is currently on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States and the Blues have yet to make a decision on the forward’s future. It’s likely that an approach for Scamacca would only happen if the Broja deal looked dead in the water.

Di Canio’s doubts, though, should be taken aboard. The last thing that manager David Moyes needs is to bring in another number nine who isn’t up to the standard required.
