West Ham are now looking favourites to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, according to reports in the English media.
There have been unconfirmed reports that Valencia have dropped out of the deal and the Hammers are now poised to sign the Uruguayan.
However, it is believed that negotiations are still ongoing with West Ham now having agreed to pay Gomez’s £45m release clause. The sale of Marko Arnautovic is believed to have helped increase the club’s offer for the player.
Supporters on Twitter can’t help but get excited by the prospect of the 22-year-old signing for the club:
When it’s confirmed, I hope that we put in a release clause of £80m+ because I think we could have a top striker on our hands.

West Ham fans do have experience of other transfers such as with Alexandre Lacazette, Michy Batshuayi and Carlos Bacca where lengthy discussions have not ended successfully, but things could be different this time.
Supporters will be waiting with bated breath, hoping this deal gets over the line sooner rather than later.
