Arsenal were tipped to be active in the market this month but the failure to land Mykhailo Mudryk has set them back somewhat. It means they have yet to make a signing in January, although you would still expect them to make a couple of additions before deadline day.
The only other deals of note are Aston Villa’s purchase of Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno, who will compete with Lucas Digne for a starting spot, while Brentford have brought in Kevin Schade on loan from Freiburg.
Brighton have also signed Facundo Buonanotte from Rosario Central. Could he be another Alexis Mac Allister? We shall have to wait and see.

After splashing the cash during the summer transfer window, Chelsea have continued to open their chequebook in January, recruiting no less than five players so far. The most notable, of course, is the eye-watering fee they spent on Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk.
Leeds have also brought in a couple of new additions this month as they seek to avoid relegation. The Yorkshire club have shelled out a total of £46m on Hoffenheim’s Georginio Rutter and Red Bull Salzburg defender Max Wober.

Liverpool’s decision to snap up Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven did surprise plenty of pundits. The Dutch international had been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United but the Reds made a quick move to secure the services of the forward. Considering their main issues have been in midfield, it remains to be seen whether they have invested wisely.
Big spenders Manchester City and Newcastle have been very quiet so far in January, as have Manchester United, but the Red Devils have secured two loan signings in Burnley’s Wout Weghorst and Crystal Palace’s Jack Butland as manager Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

After signing an entire squad of players in the summer, Nottingham Forest have been far less active so far this month. They have, though, recruited Danilo from Palmeiras, which will be seen as a coup for Steve Cooper’s side, with some of Europe’s top clubs (including Arsenal) having also been interested in the Brazilian.
Wolves have been making moves in the transfer market, signing Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha, Paris Saint-Germain’s Pablo Sarabia and Nice’s Mario Lemina for a combined sum of £57m, with the Midlands club handing Julen Lopetegui the backing to improve the team’s fortunes.
