Club reveals Hammers have completed this defensive signing

West Ham have completed the signing of defender Fabian Balbuena, according to Brazilian side Corinthians.

The club released a statement this week which reveals the Hammers have activated a release clause in his contract, meaning a deal is set to go through.

The Paraguayan international is now set to travel to London in order to complete his medical ahead of the move, before officially being made a West Ham player.

Corinthians revealed the impending transfer after they released a statement which read: “Corinthians informs that it received a proposal from West Ham United, of England, for Fabian Balbuena.

“The amount offered was the same as the amount required by the other party in the contract renewal, signed two months ago.

“The defender is already cleared for medical examinations for transfer to the London club.

“The board thanks the services provided in this time of home and wishes luck in the new journey.”

Balbuena is a relatively unknown player in Europe, but has been an impressive member of Corinthians’ team over the last few seasons, playing 136 times for Corinthians and scoring 11 goals despite being a centre-back.

The 26-year-old won three titles in three years in Brazil, and has made five caps for Paraguay.
