Cascarino Compares West Ham Winger To Bale And Robben

Former striker Tony Cascarino has compared West Ham winger Andriy Yarmolenko’s playing style to Gareth Bale and Arjen Robben.

The Ukrainian international plays on the right-hand side but usually cuts in to shoot with his stronger left foot, and the ex Irish international says the way he plays is akin to the two superstars:

“Yarmolenko is like Gareth Bale and Arjen Robben in the way that he wants to play on the right and cut in on to his left foot. As an opposing defender, you cannot allow him to do that or he will punish you more often than not. And it is also obvious that he will try to do it at every opportunity.”

Yarmolenko has gotten off to a slow start with the Hammers, mostly due to the fact he has barely started a match since January before his £20m move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

However, his brace against Everton at the weekend in the 3-1 victory should help kickstart his career at the London Stadium.

The 28-year-old is likely to be given his second start in a row by manager Manuel Pellegrini when West Ham face Chelsea at home on Sunday afternoon. The Hammers will be keen to end their London rival’s 100% start to the Premier League season.
