Carroll expecting to forge a big partnership at West Ham next year

West Ham struggled for consistency last season and a major issue for the Hammers was up front, where the likes of Andy Carroll endured regular injury problems and left Slaven Bilic’s side with limited options in attack.

The Hammers had frustrating recruitment in this area, with both Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri leaving after unimpressive loan spells, and Bilic’s side seem intent to solve their woes this summer by securing top-class attacking additions.

West Ham have been linked to an array of names to bolster their attacking options, including Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho and Chelsea’s Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi, but it’s likely the players currently at the club will continue to be important.

Andy Carroll is one of those who will be important for the Hammers next season and he’s spoken about the task in hand, suggesting he can create a superb partnership with the home supporters. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:

“London Stadium has obviously got the potential to be one of the greatest in the league. It takes time, like every new stadium, and hopefully next season we will just build on it.”

“I thought the noise also gave the lads an extra bit in our win over Spurs. The games we have won and played really well were down to the noise fans getting behind us. You can hear it on the pitch as well.”

“Not many people thought we could beat Spurs that night. I’d like to think the West Ham fans thought we could, but a lot of other football fans didn’t, so it just shows the power the West Ham fans have got, getting involved with the lads and helping us to turn games into wins.”

“There is more to come from me personally, too. I need to stay clear of everything and kick on.”

Carroll’s importance to West Ham next season will be significant but the arrivals of new strikers mean he needs to knuckle down to earn regular opportunities at the London Stadium, otherwise he may find himself pushed towards the exit door.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make a lasting impression in the Premier League ever since his £35m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool, with the England international managing just 36 Premier League goals since 2011- 30 of which have come with the Hammers.
