Brady Reveals West Ham Are ‘Reluctant’ To Adopt Controversial Formula That Could Impact Future PL Seasons

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady says that the Hammers are one of a number of clubs who are reluctant to adopt a proposal which would see the Premier League adopt a ‘points per game’ formula if the season has to be curtailed.

Despite games having been scheduled to return as of June 17th, there are concerns that a second spike in COVID-19 cases could halt the league’s plans. If that happens, the clubs have been asked to vote on a solution at a meeting this Thursday.

However, Brady says the ‘points per game’ method would not only be used for this season, but for future campaigns as well, leaving many clubs concerned:

“The next meeting will take even longer than the last one. As myself and a number of other clubs are reluctant to decide a future Premier League shareholder’s fate by a formula rather than a football match.”

There is no perfect solution for ending a season early and with ‘null and void’ firmly off the table, it appears the Premier League will follow Scotland’s lead if the campaign has to be cut short.

The Scottish Premiership used an unweighted ‘points per game’ formula, meaning points are divided by the number of games played to work out a team’s final position in the league table.
