Brady apologises for London Stadium trouble

West ham United vice chairman Karren Brady has apologised for the trouble at the London Stadium during the defeat to Burnley last weekend.

Shocking scenes ensued at the former Olympic Park when the Hammers were beaten by 3-0 by Sean Dyche’s side earlier in the month.

Fans chose to invade the pitch on four separate occasions throughout the game, while others also chose to protest in front of the directors’ box, with joint-owner David Sullivan being hit by a coin.

Club captain Mark Noble was also confronted on the pitch by one angry fan, who was subsequently thrown to the ground by the clearly enraged Englishman.

Following the incident, Brady described it as “one of the most painful days” in the club’s history.

“The board of West Ham United would like to offer our sincere apologies to the vast majority of our supporters who turned up to support their club – lots of them with young children – who sat and tried to continue to support their team,” Brady said in her regular column in The Sun.

“I also pledge to you that nothing – and I mean nothing – is more important to us now than ensuring that you are able to come and support the team safely in all future games.

“The board takes full responsibility for our predicament.”

West Ham moved to the London Stadium from their long term home Upton Park in the summer of 2016, but have thus far endured a difficult tenure at their new ground.

The Hammers finished 11th in there first season at the London Stadium, but have won only five of their 30 outings at home in all competitions this season – a poor run of form that sees David Moyes’ side out of all domestic competitions and only two points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zones.

“It’s difficult for everyone to move, we all have cherished memories of our old home but we have moved and there is no going back,” Brady said.

“In reality, when you move to a new house it is empty and without personality.

“Over time you make it a home, decorating it to your taste in your preferred colours, adding your pictures, photos and memories to make it warm and comfortable.

“We have been trying very hard to make our stadium home.”
