West Ham are scouting Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to reports.
The 21-year-old is currently playing at the Euro Under 21 Championships with France and the Hammers are said to be keeping an eye on him.
Some fans would like to see Mateta at the London Stadium:
People should watch some of his matches. Way more consistent than Mitrovic, and overall better than Wilson and Rondón

Watched him play a few times impressed me every time. Would prefer him over Wilson, Rondon and Mitrovic

I’d rather have Gomez, but Mateta is a great player with a tonne of potential!
Gomez just has those multiple seasons scoring well below his belt!
100% both over Wilson though, I like how the targets are younger as a whole.
Ship Hernandez & Hughill then get Maupay or C.Adams— Steven McCarthy ? (@StevenMcCarthy9) 23 June 2019
While a number of others have never heard of the French forward:
Don’t know anything about him. But I will trust the thoughts of PelleSillios!

Here is an example of at least 39% of people pretending they know about a player they’ve never seen

Mateta only joined Mainz last season from Lyon for €10m. He had impressed the German side whilst playing out on loan at Le Harve.
For the French club, he scored 19 in 37 appearances in Ligue Two, and he carried on that form last campaign whilst playing in the Bundesliga.
Despite Mainz finishing just below mid-table, Mateta hit the back of the net 14 times in 34 games and was the club’s main striker throughout the campaign.
At international level, he has made six appearances for France’s Under 21 so far and came on as a substitute in the 2-1 win over England in the Euro U21 Championships last week.
