Ben Johnson’s Stance On West Ham Future Revealed As Arsenal, Spurs And Liverpool Are All Linked

West Ham right-back Ben Johnson is “happy” at the club despite contract talks reaching an impasse, according to The Athletic’s Hammers correspondent Roshane Thomas.

The London triggered their option to unilaterally extend the defender’s contract until 2024 last week, but they were in negotiations over a six and a half year deal, which would have included a pay rise:

With no agreement over a longer-term contract, there remains speculation about Johnson’s future at the London Stadium. Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool were all mentioned as potential suitors but that was before the extension clause was triggered.

The 22-year-old could have been set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, if that clause had not been included in his original contract, but it appears that a dispute over wages remains.

With Johnson apparently content to stay, it does allow West Ham time to negotiate another deal, and it’s safe to say that he won’t be leaving the club in the summer.
