West Ham United fans were not pleased after their team drew 1-1 with KAA Gent in an uninspiring encounter – let’s see what they had to say on Twitter after the game’s conclusion.
Much of the criticism was levelled at Ben Johnson, who was noticeably below par against the Belgians. He wasn’t the only one to face the Hammers fans’ wrath – once again, manager David Moyes came under heavy scrutiny for his defensive approach.
Others, however, did not direct their criticism at the team – instead, they took issue with the performance of the referee, who made a number of questionable calls throughout the 90 minutes (including ruling out a Nayef Aguerd goal in the first half).
Daylight robbery disgraceful from the manager yet again everyone is losing the will to live watching this game after game.

Irrespective of result, that has to be one of the worst refereeing performances of recent times tonight. Shambles from start to finish.

Feel like the odd one out here, but that was a really entertaining game of football 😂 ridiculously open, end to end. Thought the intensity was great. I think our fans expected to breeze past them, but credit to Gent, they played well.
Just got to win the home leg now #COYI

Ben Johnson wouldn’t get in the team at Scunthorpe.

In the game against Gent, the Irons drew first blood on the stroke of halftime as Danny Ings scored a tap-in – he showed great movement to find himself in space.
However, in the 56th minute, Gent found an equaliser, as Hugo Cuypers capped off a clever move with a powerful strike inside the penalty area. West Ham were unable to retake the lead, as the scores finished level.
It wasn’t the result that Hammers fans would have wanted – nevertheless, West Ham are still in a good position to progress to the next round of the competition, with the home leg awaiting on April 20.
