West Ham defender Craig Dawson scored a last-minute equaliser against Leicester on Sunday and supporters have been reflecting on the impact that the 31-year-old has had at the club despite being signed for a modest fee.
The centre-back joined on a permanent basis from Watford for £2m back in July after a season-long loan and fans on Twitter have been praising the player for his performances, despite costing so little:
I’ve been saying it for some time now the best signing we’ve made in years 2 million an absolute bargain ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒

For what he cost, he's been a revelation.

There’s no denying he has a mistake in him, but generally he’s solid at the back and can score a goal. It’s just some of those crucial moments that let him down. For 2 million he’s been a bargain.

He's a great 3rd/4th option

Gladiator!

I think he’s been exceptional almost every game he’s played. The criticism has been totally unjustified. He’s been playing at the level of someone costing 20x what we paid.

He’s exactly what I want from a player who’s not the most technically skilled or fastest but puts 110% every game and puts he’s body on the line

He IS Virgil van Dawson

It really was a shrewd piece of business by manager David Moyes. Dawson has always been a solid defender for the teams he has played for and he has fitted in perfectly since his arrival at the London Stadium.
Especially considering the season-ending injury to Angelo Ogbonna and the controversy surrounding Kurt Zouma, it’s good to have someone like Dawson in the squad who can come into the starting eleven and do a job for his team when he’s needed.
