All 20 PL Clubs RANKED Based On Their Prize Money From TV Rights During The 2021/22 Season

The Premier League has the most lucrative domestic TV rights deal in world football and it has allowed the game in this country to flourish as a result

Broadcasters such as SKY and BT shell out billions of pounds in order to secure the rights to what many believe is the most exciting league in the world.

Half of the broadcast revenue is handed out equally between the 20 teams, while the other 50% is split between a side’s final league position, and how many times a club has their games shown on TV.

Press the next page as we rank every Premier League team based on the prize money they have earned from TV rights this season.

It’s not surprising to see the three relegated clubs taking up the bottom three positions in terms of TV earnings, but it should be noted that they will receive “parachute payments” from the Premier League, receiving £41m next season, £34m the year after, and £34m during their third campaign if they are not promoted from the Championship during that time.

Southampton actually finished 15th in the Premier League table but broadcasters were obviously not that keen to televise their games.

20) Norwich – £100.3m
19) Watford – £104.6m
18) Burnley – £106.1m
17) Southampton – £113.3m

The TV money appears to fairly reflect where these next four teams finished in the league, but you have to say that, with every club in the top flight getting at least £100m from broadcasters, the difference between Norwich in 20th and Aston Villa in 13th is quite marginal.

Premier League sides have negotiated pretty equitable distribution in terms of broadcasting rights and this leads to the English top-flight being much more competitive than other top European domestic competitions.

16) Leeds – £116.1m
15) Everton – £120.4m
14) Brentford – £121m
13) Aston Villa – £123.3m

Again, the order here is pretty similar to where these teams actually finished in the table. Palace ended up in 12th, Wolves in 10th, Brighton in 9th and Newcastle 11th.

With the Magpies now bankrolled by the Saudis, their success on the pitch could also lead to their prize money increasing by a considerable amount over the next few seasons.

12) Crystal Palace – £124.3m
11) Wolves – £128.2m
10) Brighton – £130.6m
9) Newcastle – £131.5m

Despite Manchester United finishing outside the Champions League places, it is still surprising that the Red Devils weren’t higher up on the list in terms of prize money.

The Red Devils are one of the best-supported clubs in the world and broadcasters usually cash in on that by televising more games. This season, though, it seems their poor performances adversely impacted their TV revenue.

8) Leicester – £134m
7) West Ham – £142.1m
6) Manchester United – £150.2m
5) Arsenal – £151.6m

The fierce battle for the title between City and Liverpool meant that the two clubs were always going to come out on top, both in terms of money handed out for their finishing positions but also because of the broadcasters televising so many of their games during the run-in.

Spurs probably leapfrogged Chelsea in terms of prize money due to the interest in their bid to finish fourth ahead of Arsenal.

4) Chelsea – £151.7m
3) Tottenham – £152.1m
2) Liverpool – £159.8m
1) Manchester City – £161.3m
