West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has made it clear that Grady Diangana will stay at West Brom for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for the Baggies and a lot of fans have been calling on the Hammers to recall him from his loan spell in January.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Pellegrini said he believes that the winger would benefit from staying at the Hawthorns and returning ready to feature for West Ham’s first team next campaign:
“Without any doubt, he will be part of the team in the future. I trust a lot in Grady. He will be ready for next season. We must continue supporting him. He must finish his season where he is.”
Supporters on Twitter had mixed views on whether opting against recalling Diangana is a good idea:
Why would you recall him when he is doing well and getting regular first team football? Absolutely the right call by pellegrini

We need him. Not enough hustle out there without him.

Good Grady is in form and playing it would be terrible to recall him for the bench of a losing team

Right decision

Good. Wouldn't be fair to cut short this brilliant learning experience just to come sit on our bench, if he's lucky enough to be picked for the squad

Makes perfect sense – he will return a much better/stronger player.

From what I saw of Diangana last season he has a great attitude and a willingness to run into spaces. We could do with him right now !

Think it would be unfair on him to take him out of somewhere he is flourishing. He would be better improving there before coming here next season and smashing it

Right call for me. We would call him back for him to bench behind Antonio and Anderson for the rest of the season. Let him play, he is tearing it up and a whole season with 35+ games will do wonders for his development ahead of a Premier League season with us in 2020/21.

Diangana is certainly making a big impression whilst out on loan in the Championship. The midfielder has racked up four goals and contributed five assists in 13 league appearances for West Brom this campaign.
It will certainly benefit him in terms of game time by staying with Slaven Bilic’s team, but West Ham could do with his pace and guile in attack at the moment.
