“A Driving Force…” Shearer Hails West Ham Star As He Names His PL Team Of The Week

Alan Shearer has praised West Ham captain Declan Rice for his performance in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The 24-year-old scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, but Shearer says Rice’s all-round game was also outstanding:

“[A] magnificent goal and a driving force in midfield for the Hammers.”

Rice received congratulations from the likes of John Terry and Jack Wilshere after finally getting on the scoresheet against Forest. He will be hoping to get a few more goals in the coming weeks and months.

The midfielder wasn’t the only West Ham player that Shearer highlighted in his official Premier League Team of the Week. Danny Ings’ brace was enough to get him some recognition, while David Moyes was even named the best manager.

In terms of the rest of Shearer’s eleven, he picked Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez in goal, with his teammate Tyrone Mings joining the likes of Tottenham pair Emerson Royal and Eric Dier in a back four, along with Leeds fullback Junior Firpo.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Fulham’s Manor Solomon and Spurs’s Oliver Skipp were chosen alongside Rice in midfield. Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard was selected with Ings up front.
